How to install iOS 6

This is the walkthrough on how to download and install iOS 6 on your apple gadgets.

You have two methods for downloading and installing iOS 6. You can simply update your iOS device over the air via the device’s Settings, or you can connect it to your computer and use iTunes.

Method 1: Over the air
The easier of the methods is to grab your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch and update wirelessly. Before doing so, however, it’s wouldn’t be a bad idea to sync your device with iTunes if you haven’t done so in a while. There have been instances with past iOS updates where users have reported the new iOS didn’t install correctly, bricking their phone and forcing them to restore their phone before trying again. So, if your iOS device has talked to iTunes recently, go ahead and go to Settings > General > Software Update.

You should see iOS 6 listed, with a Download and Install button below it. Tap the button, agree to Apple’s terms and conditions, and either heed or ignore Apple’s advice to connect your device to a power source during the download to save battery.

After iOS 6 installs, your device will restart, which was a rather lengthy process in my experience (20 minutes or so, after the roughly 45 minutes it took to download and install). After restarting, you’ll be greeted by a shiny, new iOS 6 lock screen. Slide to open your device and click through the following four setup screens:

Method 2: Update via iTunes
If you are near your computer with iTunes, it might be faster to update this way. In my experience, updating my iPad 2 via iTunes was faster than updating my iPhone 4S over the air. The first order of business is to update iTunes to version 10.7. Open iTunes and then click iTunes > Check for Updates to install the latest version.

Once iTunes is up-to-date, connect your iOS device. Click on your device under the Devices header in the left-hand column and click Check for Update.

A pop-up window will appear, alerting you that a new iOS version is available for your device. Click the Download and Update button. (Or, if you are going to need your phone in the near future, opt for the Download Only button to download it now and install later. iOS 6 is a 626MB download for the iPhone, which could take an hour or more, depending on your connection and the amount of traffic hitting Apple’s servers.)

Click through two more setup screens that show you iOS 6′s many new features and Apple’s terms and conditions to start the download.

Once the download is complete, keep your iOS device connected until it restarts. After restarting, you will need to hop through four setup screens before you are off and running with iOS 6. On my iPad 2, the process looked like this:

The 10 Main Advantages of Buying an Advanced DSLR

Jason Row of Lights Stalking shares this ten main advantage of buying an advances dSLR. Here they are:

Spot Metering – Many high end DSLRs feature spot metering in addition to center weighted and matrix. Spot metering can be highly useful for getting the correct exposure on a small part of an overall scene such as a a person’s face when the light is behind them.

Depth of Field Preview – This highly useful and often overlooked button will stop the camera’s lens down to the preset aperture, allowing you to gauge the depth of field, extremely handy for landscape and architectural photographers.

Depth of Field Button

Faster Shooting – The continuous shooting modes on more advanced DSLRs are generally much faster and have a larger buffer than less expensive models. This means not only can you shoot more images per second, but also many more images per burst of shooting, as the camera can store and process these much quicker. The most obvious advantage of this is in sports and wildlife photography.

AF/AE Lock Buttons – These two buttons are excellent functions to use in composition. By holding them down, you can lock either the exposure or the focus to the current scene before recomposing the image.

Programing the Stop Difference – Some cameras allow you to set your exposure steps by either 1/2 stops or 1/3 stops. This can be extremely useful in tough lighting conditions, by setting 1/3rd of a stop you have a finer control over the exposure

Programable Bracketing – Bracketing is a hugely useful part of photography, allowing you to make a range of different exposures. Similar to the above, programable bracketing allows you to select how many images you wish to bracket, often between 3 and 7 as well as the stop difference between the exposures, this is often 1/3rd, 1/2 or 1 full stop. This function is really useful for HDR photography.

Mirror Lock Up – Another under used function on many higher level DSLR’s, mirror lock is designed for use when the camera is on a tripod. Setting this function, locks the mirror up and out of the way of the sensor. The reason for this function is to reduce what is known as mirror slap, which causes camera shake as the mirror swings up. Using mirror lock up is highly recommended for landscape and low light photographers where every inch of sharpness is required.

Dual Card Slots – Some top end cameras feature two memory card slots, this can be an extremely useful feature, as they not only allowing you to shoot more images without changing cards, most have options to shoot RAW on one card and JPeg on another or to write the same image to both cards, giving you an instant back up.

Dual Memory Card Slots

Diopter Adjustment – This seemingly minor function can be a huge advantage to people with less than 20/20 vision. It works in a similar way to the right lens adjustment on binoculars, allowing you to adjust the viewfinder’s focus to suit your eyesight.

Full Frame Sensor – Whilst this is not necessarily an advantage over smaller sensor cameras, many of today’s pro level DSLRs are full frame. In practice this means that the camera will probably have lower noise levels than it’s APS sensor contemporaries and possibly a better dynamic range. A downside will be the loss of the crop factor that makes the apparent focal length of lenses around 1.5X longer and that you may have to buy a complete new set of full frame lenses, a serious consideration when factoring in the cost of your new DSLR.

New Canon 5D Mark II, $2,700, 21.1 Megapixels, Full Frame Sensor, Anti Dust Technology, Shoots HD Video

This is not an exhaustive list, many advanced and pro level cameras have other features that can vary brand by brand but if you are in the market for a new higher end DSLR the above functions are well worth looking out for.

How To Save A Photo In Latest Facebook For iOS

Facebook just released a new version for iOS. Previous version of Facebook iOS app has been really slow. It can take time to get to a friend’s profile, see updates on your news feed, see comments and photos. You get used to tapping your fingers. But today Facebook is changing that. It has released Facebook 5.0 for iOS, which promises to be twice as fast as the previous version. Facebook says it will be faster to launch, faster when scrolling through the news feed and opening photos.

Facebook 5.0 was completely rebuilt, showing some major speed improvements. There weren’t any major new features included in this release, but the workflow for some tasks did change. One of those tasks is how users saves photos to the camera roll.

“We’ve rebuilt the app from the ground up, so now the app opens much faster and your news feed and notifications load right when you open Facebook,” Facebook Product Manager, Mick Johnson, wrote in a blog on Facebook.

In the old version of Facebook on iOS, you tapped on an action button while viewing the photo and were given the option to save the photo. In the new Facebook 5.0, when viewing a photo there’s only a “Done” button in the upper right corner of the screen along with the expected Like and Comment icons at the bottom of the screen.

But, if you long press on the photo while viewing it, you’re given the option to save it to your camera roll.

But if you’re viewing your own photo, an additional Make Profile Picture option will appear above the Save Photo option. You won’t have the same Make Profile Picture option when viewing a photo posted by someone else.

Facebook 5.0 will be available in the Apple App Store starting today. See for yourself the new Facebook 5.0 for iOS.

How To Create Apple ID Without A Credit Card

What is Apple ID? An Apple ID is your user name for everything you do with Apple: Shop the iTunes Store, enable iCloud on all your Apple devices, buy from the Apple Online Store, make a reservation at an Apple Retail Store, access the Apple Support website, and more. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services. You don’t have to create a new account for each service—just use your Apple ID.

Creating Apple ID directly in iTunes requires link to a credit card. The following tutorial  helps anyone to create Apple ID without having a credit card link.

Just a week after opening up its service to the general public, Pinterest has launched an Android app for the very first time. The tablet-optimized app is now available for your Android smartphone and tablet, as well as the Kindle Fire. Here’s how to get started with Pinterest for Android:

Creating new pins
You can create new pins from your Android device via its camera or from a photo in your gallery by tapping on Create pin from the main screen.

If you want to create a pin from the Web, tap on your browser’s Share button, then select Create pin. Next, select the photo you want to pin, then choose the details of your pin, like the board you want to pin it to, the description, and whether you want to share it on Twitter and Facebook. Keep in mind that sharing the pin on Facebook or Twitter will require you to authorize Pinterest on those services.
